An arrest has been made after Waikato Conservation Board Chairman Arthur Hinds was assaulted outside a community hall in Tairua earlier in the week. Mr Hinds was attending a meeting to discuss the establishment of a marine reserve off the Coromandel coast when he was allegedly punched in the face and knocked to the ground.
Mr Hinds supports DoC's use of 1080 poison to control pests and was assaulted by a 57 year old 1080 protestor as he arrived at the meeting.
The man was arrested yesterday and appeared in the Thames District Court charged with assault.
Police enquiries are continuing.
