Alan Evens has been named as the 79 year old Waihi resident who was seriously injured when his arm became trapped by his armchair next to an electric heater.
Police forced an entry to his Kenny St flat on Wednesday when his care giver alerted them that he may be in trouble.
He was forced to lie next to the heater for up to 24 hours and suffered horrific injuries to his arm.
The rescue helicopter picked him up from Morgan Park and airlifted him to Waikato Hospital where he is in a critical condition.
Alan Evens had lived in the Kenny St flat for about 7 years and his neighbours, who were very upset to hear of the incident, said that he kept to himself and they didn't hear anything.
