A tragic accident occurred in Waihi yesterday at around 12 pm. An 18 month old baby boy drowned when he was playing in his backyard at home and fell into a plastic rubbish bin partially filled with rain water.
His mother found him with his head submerged in the bin when she went to check on him.
Efforts by his parents, ambulance staff and a doctor failed to resuscitate the toddler.
Sergeant Dave Litton will be in the Gold FM studios tomorrow morning for the Gold FM Police Report which was postponed because of this tragedy and other incidents that happened in Waihi yesterday (Tuesday 19th July).
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to the toddler's family.
