Art will be everywhere you look at the historic Victoria Hall on State Highway 2 at Waikino this Labour Weekend, from the 22nd to the 24th of October. This is the 11th annual exhibition and competition for local and not so local artists to show case their talent.
Categories this year include painting, craft, photography and a special mosaics category sponsored by the Tile Depot. The theme for the mosaic category will be 'What Makes Kiwis Tick?' and has a prize of $250.00.
The supreme award winner will receive $500 and all categories have prize money ranging from $250 to $150 for first place with all second placed entrants receiving $100 and all third placed entrants receiving $50.
This year's judge is Australian Jacqui Douglas who discovered mosaic art 22 years ago and pursued it passionately. She has commissioned pieces gracing homes and businesses throughout Australia and she tutors in mosaic and ceramic art. She'll also be taking a one day mosaic art workshop at Te Kauri Hall at Waikino School on Saturday the 22nd of October, so if you fancy trying your hand you'll need to book sooner rather than later as mosaic exhibition organiser Con Kiernan says that spaces are limited. The cost for the workshop is $95 which includes materials.
There will be prizes for the best painting, best craft and best photograph in the 'people' and 'other' categories and for an overall supreme winner.
Entry forms will be available here at Gold FM, Harcourts Real Estate, The Art Market, Barron's Kodak Express on Seddon St, and for more information contact Art Waikino convenor Helen Wilson on 863 6974, or email sharpadze@xtra.co.nz
