On the Gold FM Council News this morning Hauraki District Mayor John Tregidga said he'd attended a meeting in Auckland last week with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise to discuss "progress on the Gold Discovery Centre in Waihi". New Zealand Trade and Enterprise committed $1.8 million to the centre and wanted an update on the plans.
John Tregidga said " We need to move forward. We've completely gone back to the drawing board, since funding fell over on the first plan they've gone back to square one. In the new market and in the new environment the first plan was just struggling to stack up financially and it was a bit of a high risk. So they're looking at a much reduced size, but keeping the same focus of what the Discovery Centre was about. They've re looked at it and got the cost down but they're still making sure that it's got that wow factor. There's a lot of work gone into it and it's looking exciting still".
