The Ngati Waihi Youth Club, in association with the Ngati Waihi Carving School are putting the finishing touches on a smaller scale model of a full size carving that will eventually adorn the manuhiri (visitor) shelter at the entrance to the Waihi Community Marae.
Nine students have been working with tutor Thor Rubena to complete the project. The smaller model will be placed outside the Ngati Waihi Youth Club building and work will begin next week on the full scale version.
The project is part of the school holiday programme being run by the Ngati Waihi Youth Club.
