DRAT Calls Meeting To Air Concerns

Posted by Media Release - Distressed Residents Action Team (DRAT) on 02/09/2011

Residents wanting to know more about Newmont Waihi Gold plans to mine beneath homes in Waihi and to extend mining operations in the centre of town to include underground activities are invited to join the Distressed Residents Action Team at 5.30pm on Fri 9 Sept at the Friendship hall.

Newmont have been invited to do their presentation, representative/s from council are expected to attend and confirmation has been received from Coromandel political candidates Scott Simpson of the National party and the Green party's Catherine Delahunty. Kevin Stone (NZ First) and Hugh Kinimonth (Labour) are yet to confirm.
"This will be a good opportunity for residents to become more fully informed about what is being proposed and will provide an added opportunity for them to seek answers to the questions they may have.  We also think it will be a good forum for Newmont to gather more local feedback and for the candidates wanting to represent our electorate after the next election to hear the concerns of our community and to consider how they could best represent our concerns after the election" said DRAT spokesperson Collette Spalding.
