On Saturday (19th December) Newmont Waihi Gold staff placed a bouquet of 29 flowers on the miner statue outside the Waihi Memorial Hall on Seddon St to commemorate the first anniversary of the Pike River Coal Mine tragedy.
Each flower represents one of the 29 miners who lost their life in the mine.
A member of the Newmont Waihi Gold mine rescue team attended the memorial service in Greymouth on Newmont's behalf.
