Karangahake Gorge Closed When Truck Overturns

The Karangahake Gorge was closed for several hours today when a 16 wheeler truck full of fence palings and timber over turned on the Paeroa side of the Karangehake Hall overbriged near Mackaytown at about 11.30 am.

The truck was travelling towards Waihi when the accident occured.The trailer of the truck slipped into the water table which then dragged the rest of the vehicle across the road overturning it and closing the gorge from both sides.

The driver was treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment and the road remained closed until approximately 4.30 pm.
