A driver who died in a high speed crash on the outskirts of Waihi on Tuesday night should not have been behind the wheel of the car he was driving.
Sergeant Dave Litton of the Waihi Police said Vinnie PEARSON died at the scene of the crash, on Trig Rd near the intersection with SH2, about 5.40pm. "Mr PEARSON did not have a driver's license and was forbidden to drive in 2008. "The situation was made all the more tragic in that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Last year 11 people died on Waikato roads while unrestrained and in many of those cases had they been restrained their injuries would have been survivable."
