Newmont Waihi Gold have had a few noise complaints lately. With the present work in the Martha open pit vehicles are working higher up than normal and the noise has become an issue on occasion. They are keen to acknowledge the complaints and are working at implementing a range of new noise reduction programmes.
The information update link below explains their consent conditions and describes how sound monitoring works.
They've been very busy canvassing residents for their views about the proposed mining expansions and are trying to identify the issues that could be of concern and provide information to the public. An information office has been set up next to the Waihi Memorial Hall on Seddon Street for people to call in and talk to the staff there.
