Waikato Police investigating an early morning fire in an isolated Coromandel Peninsula community have confirmed the cause of the blaze was suspicious.
District Field Crime Supervisor, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead, said emergency services were called to the Kennedy Bay address about 4am.
"Once the fire was extinguished by fire-fighters a scene examination commenced, carried out by fire investigators and Police.
"At this time I can confirm the fire is being treated as suspicious. Officers involved in the enquiry are currently working to confirm the location of all persons from the address.
Mr Whitehead said these enquiries are being carried out in an area subject to some communications difficulties.
