A small, but committed group of men gathered at the corner of Seddon St and Rosemont Rd, Waihi, with cameras at the ready by 10 am this morning for a glimpse at the over hyped 'Boobs On Bikes Parade'. They were joined a little later by an assortment of both sexes who'd come to check out the boobs ... and bikes, of course.
If you didn't make it along to watch, you didn't miss much, it was a bit of a 'flash in the pan'. One local Waihi business man we spoke to was having a bit of a giggle when he proclaimed, " I saw more in the bathroom at home this morning".
There seemed to be as many 'man boobs' on show as female breasts, because a couple of huge billboards were being towed on trailers displaying male and female chest bits. By our estimation you'd be lucky if there were more than half a dozen sets of boobs on bikes.
Self proclaimed porno king Steve Crowe's exotica erotica parade through town all fell a bit flat and droopy really.
Incidentally when we rang the Hauraki District Council to ask whether a traffic management plan or permission had been sought to hold a parade through Waihi's main street, we were told that Steve Crowe had had a word with Mayor John Tregidga, but other than that the council were not involved, because apparently the parade was going to stay on State Highway 2. The parade did go up Seddon St, so I guess the people who abide by the laws and go through applications and the process involved with running a parade or event in town must be feeling a bit flat too.
