The Waihi Beach Surf Lifeguard Club Under 19s travelled to Wellington on the weekend to compete in the New Zealand Surf Boat Series. They competed in 5 races and won 3 which gives them the first place in their round.
They're leading the pack with 5 points overall and the next placed team, Titahi Bay, who are the current title holders of the Under 19s New Zealand Surf Boat competition, has 3 points.
Jack Kingsford, David Grant, Josh Williamson and Carl Glidein, who's sitting in for Luke Kingsford while he's holidaying in Switzerland have worked hard to get fit for the series.
Coach and 'sweep' Dan Harris says "the boys are in the boat 2 or 3 times a week in all conditions and as it steps up into the holiday period; the time in the boat will increase as well.
Teams compete from all over the country in the series.
The next round is in Whangamata on the 2nd of January.
