There's been a bit of confusion in Waihi about the result for the Waihi College First XV in the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival (GCRC). The official website for the event has Waihi listed as the 'Open Red Runner Up' for the event, which is a great result for the college rugby boys.
The Gold Coast Rugby Carnival is an annual gathering of school age rugby players from around the world. It's the largest and longest running rugby event of its type in Australia and most of the clubs and schools who attend are carnival regulars, including schools from around New Zealand. Along with the associated Gold Coast Netball Carnival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, the combined event has this year attracted over 100 teams from five Australian states and New Zealand.
The competition celebrates competitiveness, sportsmanship and friendship and is open to students aged 15 to 18 years old.
And... the Waihi College Girl's Netball team who attended the Gold Coast Netball Carnival is the 'Senior Cup Runner Up'.
So overall, it's been a brilliant tournament for Waihi College. Congratulations!
