The Waihi Netball Association has a big weekend ahead. They're hosting a tournament with 20 teams from around the Waikato at the netball courts on Kenny St on Sunday. The tournament is held annually and teams will be travelling from as far as Taupo, Taumarunui and Te Kauwhata to compete.
Four age groups, all under 15, will play and the best teams from this competition will go on to compete in a Hamilton tournament next weekend. Waihi Netball President Jennifer Chappell said at the Hamilton tournament the players will be watched very carefully, and it's an opportunity for the stand out players to be recognised and named. From there the chosen players will attend a coaching clinic and be mentored to hopefully fulfill their netball aspirations.
Who knows, we may have some future Silver Ferns playing here on Sunday. The public is welcome along to the Waihi Netball Courts on Kenny St to watch, and entry is free.
