Waihi Police File

Sergeant Dave Litton said last week's fatal B train truck accident is a timely reminder for truck drivers to remember to buckle up their seat belt. The driver of the truck may have survived the crash had he been wearing his. The fine is the same as it is for not wearing a seat belt in a car, and there is even a demerit point component if caught.

There has been a spate of vehicle thefts in the Waikato and trailers are being targeted. Sergeant Litton warned "if you have a trailer, do something about securing it, and that's not just putting it out of sight, that's putting a tow ball lock on it. Put some markings on it, engrave your name or whatever on it. Engrave the number plate on the trailer and put something somewhere where someone may not find it when they're first looking, and take photos".

A utility was stolen from Herd Road on the weekend. It's a white Nissan 4 x 4 and the number plate is CUC777.

Drink driving is still a problem and random checkpoints could be anywhere at anytime, so avoid drinking and driving.

A camper van had it's windscreen kicked in on Friday night while it was parked at the Waihi Beach Community Centre as part of a campervan convention.

A car had it's back window kicked in on Wednesday morning, the 31st of August, when it was parked outside Hetherington House on Seddon Avenue. If anyone saw anything the Police would be keen to hear from them.

The Waihi Police are still wanting to hear from anyone that knows 64 year old Brian Pacey, or his family. Even a first name of one of his family members would be helpful for the Police.

To contact the Waihi Police phone 863 8179 and in an emergency dial 111.
