Waihi Sport 'n' Action co-ordinator Pauline Davies said 'The Blast Duathlon' went off with a blast on Sunday and was really great. She said they were blessed with the weather and " nobody fell off, nobody went the wrong way. They all did really really well".
The fastest time was run by local boy Josh Garrett who completed the 20 km cycle and 4 km run in 1 hour and 22 minutes. Pauline said " he ran faster than some of the out of town athletes who are hard out triathletes and duathletes. And we had brothers challenging sisters, and sisters challenging sisters, and parents challenging kids and kids running with their uncles. We had a great time, there were no incidents and most people want to come back to better their times. All of the volunteers were fantastic, we had great sponsors and it was a great day for our community".
The Blast Duathon will be back next year, so if you're keen to do it again, or give it a go get in touch with Pauline Davies at the Waihi Events Centre.
