Waihi Volunteer Fire Service Celebrate Awards

The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service had a quiet week last week with no callouts. Senior Fire Officer Moe Stevens said this is a pretty rare occurance as they are averaging one every 3 days or so this year with the number of callouts up overall.

The firemen made good use of their downtime to make sure they were once again well represented in the annual Go Waihi Christmas Parade with Harcourts Real Estate. They traded their trousers for long johns again this year and had their trusty water pistols at the ready to prove that firemen love their hoses and use lots of water!

It's great to see them getting into the spirit of the event and having fun.

After the parade it must have been home for a quick change as they all met at the Fire Station on Kenny Street later that evening for their annual 'Waihi Fire Brigade Honours Night And Dinner'.

The Fire Station is looking great too. New doors went into the engine parking bay recently and the floor of the bay has heavy duty carpet as well. It was a great venue to hold the awards ceremony.

There was a lot of laughing and plenty of good food shared over the course of the evening.

A swag of medals were awarded for achievements throughout the year. One of the medals hadn't arrived on time so the enterprising awards committee made one from paper to fill in until the sparkly metal version arrives and it was proudly worn on the night.

The firemen are a close knit team and they proved on Saturday that they can work hard and play hard.

Congratulations to Moe and the boys and thanks for another year of great service to your community.
