The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service didn't need their water hose when they received a call out to an Evans St property last Friday evening (15th July). There was more than enough water and no fire to put out!
A young mother who was preparing to bath her baby had a bit of a dilemma when the flexihose under her bathroom vanity burst and flooded her house. Waihi's Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said "this is a good example of why it's important for people to know where their water main is, so that they can turn off the water in emergencies".
The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service were also called to a reported fire in the 'Queen's Head' area between Waihi and Waikino. When they arrived there was no sign of a fire, so it's unsure whether the call was a prank or not. And Mr Stevens reminded people that malicious calls are a waste of valuable time and resources and could put others at risk.
