The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service does all sorts of things and although they've had no fires to attend to in the past week they have had a few call outs.
On Tuesday they were called to the International College (Waihi Academy) on Landlyst Rd when a cooking demonstration for students caused the fire alarm to activate.
On Wednesday they were called to Hetherington House. It turned out to be a false alarm as contractors had accidentally triggered the fire alarm. In all the commotion with the 2 fire trucks outside Hetherington House a 'nose to tail' car accident happened and the Fire Service were there to assist.
On Thursday they were called on to cover for the Paeroa Fire Station when the Paeroa Fire Service were called to help put out a large fire that broke out in an oil bath at the A & G Building on Beach Rd in Thames. Up to 10 trucks and 40 fire fighters were called in to battle the blaze.
Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens also said that they were called out again on Thursday when a trampoline was blown into power lines causing a power outage.
