The 65 year old Waihi woman who crashed her car on Beach Rd at around 1 pm yesterday afternoon is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital.
It appears that she was driving with her dog in back of her car with the window down when the dog fell or jumped from the car. She looked back over her shoulder to see where the dog was and her car left the road, crashed into a tree and rolled.
The woman was trapped in her vehicle and the Waihi Volunteer Fire Rescue Service used the jaws of life to cut her from her car. She was air lifted to Waikato Hospital by the Tauranga based rescue helicopter.
The dog was found near by and taken to a vet.
We'll be talking to Moe Stevens, Chief Fire Officer of the Waihi Volunteer Fire Rescue Service on Monday morning.
