Waikato Police Investigating Tairua Assault

Waikato Police can confirm they are investigating an alleged serious assault on a man attending a public meeting in Tairua yesterday.

Police were called the town's community centre about 1.45pm after reports a man going to a meeting with his wife was attacked by two males.

The victim is alleged to have been struck in the head and knocked to the ground by one man and when he tried to get off the ground he was prevented from doing so by a second offender.

Officers attending the scene spoke to one man at the time of the incident and their enquiries are continuing.
