The Waikato Regional Council's Hearings Committee has voted to decline a request from the Hauraki District Council asking that $450,000 be allocated to the Hauraki Rail Trail Project over a three year period.
Official confirmation that the funding application has been declined has not yet been received by the Hauraki District Council, but it was suggested at the hearing that the Hauraki, Thames Coromandel and Matamata Piako District Councils should write infrastructure and development projects into their respective Draft Annual Plans.
Although the funding application has been rejected, work on the Hauraki Rail Trail will still go ahead and other avenues for funding will be looked into.
