Waihi Police acted quickly yesterday and managed to identify three young people involved in the theft of food and drink from the Waihi Memorial Hall.
Three males, a 17 year old, 14 year and 13 year old were apprehended for the break in.
The 17 and 14 year old were arrested for burglary. The 14 year old was bailed and will appear in the Youth Court at Waihi next week and the 17 year old will appear in the Hamilton District Court this morning.
A 41 year old Waihi man was also arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with receiving stolen property from the Waihi Memorial Hall. He will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court this morning as well.
The food and drink taken was being stored for the funeral of local Waihi woman Shirley Spurr.
At first glance it seemed that the theft from the Waihi Memorial Hall may have been connected with a break in at Koru Florist & Gallery just a few doors up from the hall on Seddon Street.
Senior Sergeant Rex Knight said investigations are continuing and it's too early yet to say if the two incidents are connected.
