Hauraki District Mayor John Tregidga gave us his response to the PCIP document this morning when he spoke to Brian Gentil.
He said the general opinion seems to be that the policy is going in the right direction, gave credit to Sefton Darby and said it may not have gone far enough in a couple of areas.
He spoke his mind about the changes Local Government Minister Nick Smith is proposing and said Dr Smith needs to "to be honest about it". He explained what has driven the Hauraki District Council debt level.
When asked about the building of the new library and if local contractors would be used he said the council is required to put contracts out for tender but he will be advocating that they should be used.
