Brian Gentil caught up with Police Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Caldwell this morning to find out about the flooding that occured in the district overnight affecting parts of Waihi Beach and Katikati.
There were patches of flooding at Waihi Beach and residents were moved from the pensioner flats in Beach Road to a local camping ground as a precautionary measure.
The time of the flooding coincided with a high tide and water threatened some beach front homes.
Steele Road at Athenree was closed for a time last night due to debris and water. The road is open now but parts of the road are impassable until the water subsides.
Phil Caldwell said there's been lots of flooding on Waitekauri Road in the Karangahake Gorge so the public needs to be aware and drive to the road conditions.
