The body of a man was brought back to Waihi Beach tonight after a boat that was launched from the Waihi Beach Surf Club found his body floating about 200 metres off Homunga Bay.
The drowning was reported to Police just after 7 pm.
At this stage it's not known whether the man's death can be attributed to debris that has been plaguing the coastline since the MV Rena started breaking up last weekend as a result of bad weather.
The man has not yet been identified and the circumstances of his death are still to be established.
