The man killed when his Harley Davidson motorcycle left the road last Friday evening in Tairua has been named. He was Peter Paul, a well known Taupo businessman and identity.
The cause of the accident is still not known. Mr Paul was riding to Coromandel with other motorcycle enthusiasts when he was killed about 6 pm after falling from his bike. There was no other vehicle involved.
About 200 bikers paid their respects to him yesterday by accompanying his body to his home Marae at Ngongotaha, Rotorua, to enable whanau and friends to pay their last respects.
Peter Paul owned the Lava Rock Cafe and two bars, the Pub n Grub and Kazbar in Taupo township. He was instrumental in establishing a policy where if a person was barred from one bar because of bad behaviour they were also barred from every other bar in the town.
A well liked family man Peter Paul will be farewelled at the Great Lake Centre in Taupo tomorrow. He will be buried in Taupo. R.I.P.
