It's been a week with a difference for Newmont Waihi Gold. It's not very often that the weather causes the damage that occured around the Black Hill area recently.
Some fences were submerged and stored pipes floated into the Ohinemuri river. Although the pipes had some markings that may have caused concern Newmont said the pipes had gone through a thorough cleaning process and were not contaminated.
The Black Hill walking track was also damaged last week so Newmont has carried out remedial work and erected signage to direct the public
A 777 truck had a load shift on Wednesday morning and resulted in a very large truck being tipped on end at the Haul Road in the Martha Mine open pit. The driver was unhurt and Newmont is investigating the cause of the incident.
The 'Walrus' midwinter swim was held at the companies polishing ponds on Wednesday morning and Tyler White received the coveted 'Walrus' trophy by beating off the twelve other would be walruses to the finishing line.
We were contacted to ask Newmont some questions about issues arising from the PCIP process and Correnso proposal for residents in Waihi East.
Sefton Darby sat in the hot seat this morning and you can listen to his answers to the questions in the interview with Brian Gentil here. Please allow a few moments for the audio to play.
