Did the lights go out at your place last night? If you're wondering why, it was caused by an accident. A young driver crashed his vehicle into a power pole in Moresby Avenue at around 6 pm.
The pole supported 11,000 volt lines and we're told about half the town were without power for a couple of hours last night.
The driver was suffering from a medical condition and Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said "at the end of the day nobody was severely injured".
The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service ended up being called out to several events over the past couple of days so the quiet and calm of last week hasn't lasted. Brian Gentil spoke with Moe Stevens about the power cut this morning.
