Maritime New Zealand reports no significant change to the Rena wreck after aerial observation flights this morning.
The crane barge Smit Borneo is in position near the Rena for salvage operations to continue.
Settled weather is forecast from Tuesday onwards and divers have already carried out preliminary checks and are on standby for more settled conditions so that they can survey the sunken rear section of the ship. It’s hoped that they can confirm and identify any haszards and help to guide the salvage.
Debris collection is resuming in the area of White Island this morning and a vessel will also be collecting debris from around Motiti Island.
Shoreline clean up teams will be deployed at Motiti Island, Mount Managua, Papamoa, Leisure island and Matakana Island today as well with protective oil booms remaining in place at Maketu.
People who sight containers or debris are urged to report it to 0800 333 771.
