Police and Search and Rescue volunteers from across the Waikato and Thames- Coromandel will converge on Whangamata this morning to relieve colleagues involved in an overnight search for an elderly Opoutere man.
Waikato Police Search and Rescue Coordinator, Constable Dave Pitchford said neighbours advised Police that 84-year-old Opoutere local, Bruce Oliver COLLIER, was missing about 11pm.
"Mr COLLIER was last seen between 4.00- 6.00pm yesterday walking along Opoutere Rd near the Opoutere Youth Hostel.
"A neighbour called in to check on him about 7pm and noticed him missing and members of the community then tried to locate him before raising the alarm with Police.
Mr Pitchford said about 40 Police and Search and Rescue volunteers had been searching for the man overnight, assisted by two specialist search dogs.
"We are now preparing a hand over for incoming staff coming from across the District who will resume the search this morning.
"Anyone who sees Mr COLLIER is asked to contact Whangamata Police on (07) 865 0300 or dial 111."
