A man was injured when he fell at the Hauraki District Council Waihi Recycling Centre at 10 to 10.30 am last Wednesday. It's believed the man was unloading materials from his car into a newly installed skip when he over balanced and fell about 8 metres.
The man landed on his feet which jarred his hips and pelvis and he was unable to move, but remained standing.
The Waihi Volunteer Fire Service attended the incident and used a small ladder, a large ladder, a stokes basket and a split stretcher to remove the injured man from the skip.
He was quite sore and was taken to Thames Hospital.
Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said the man was very lucky as it was quite a big fall.
The Fire Service also had an early morning wake up call at 5.30 this morning when they went to remove a tree which had fallen over the road by the Waikino Cafe.
