Father and son rescued after boat overtuned

Posted 19 April 2017 by Gold FM in Emergency Services - Police, Fire, Civil Defence

A father and son were lucky to have been plucked from the ocean after their boat flipped on a Coromandel bar.

The pair were crossing the Tairua bar on Tuesday afternoon when their boat overturned.

Police, Coastguard and a rescue helicopter were called to the help the men in the water before a nearby boat was able to respond.

The rescuers aboard the other boat were able to retrieve the pair from the water and took them back to Pauanui.

It’s unclear whether the men were going out or coming back across the bar when their boat flipped.
