Walking through Waihi's history

Posted 20 April 2017 by Gold FM in Environmental

A Walk Through Waihi's History was a popular choice for people getting out and about with the Echo Walking Festival. So popular it was overbooked twice.

The guided walk through Waihi's mining history started at the Martha Mine open pit traversing along the conveyor track to Union Hill before visiting historic mining relics, meandering alongside the Mill Stream to Gilmour Reserve and finishing at the World War 1 Tunnelling Company Memorial.

OceanaGold kindly lent the historical knowledge of their Senior Community Advisor Kit Wilson who was able to guide walkers and talk them through what they were seeing and share historical stories.
