Kiwi girl Kimbra has made it to the top of the charts in Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium and New Zealand singing with Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter Goyte.
The song 'Somebody I Used To Know' was written by Gotye, about the experiences he has had in broken relationships. The song was released on 6 July 2011 as the second and lead single off his album 'Making Mirrors'.
The song has received critical acclaim by music critics and the music video for the single was also well received, picking up 200,000 views in its first two weeks, as well as receiving promotion on Twitter by Ashton Kutcher, Lily Allen and Katy Perry.
Goyte, or Wouter "Wally" De Backer was born in Belgium in 1980 and moved to Australia with his family when he was 2 years old. His parents chose to use the English variation of his name, Walter, when enrolling him in school. From early on, De Backer displayed a passion for music, learning various instruments, piano and drums.
Hamiltonian Kimbra is currently based in Melbourne, Australia where she is well received. She's been performing since the age of ten and sung the national anthem when she was twelve years old in front of 27,000 people at the Aucland, Waikato NPC Rugby Final. Her first music video "Smile' featured on Kiwi kids show 'What Now'.
She's received a lot of radio air play in New Zealand over the past couple of years with her singles 'Simply On My Lips', 'Settle Down', 'Cameo Lover' and 'Good Intent'.
Her music is described as quirky with jazzy influences.
