Lady Gaga’s The Fame has become the first album to reach platinum level for downloads in the UK

The album passed 300,000 downloads recently, giving Lady Gaga yet another record ahead of the release of her new album, Born This Way.

The Fame tops a select band of just three albums to have sold more than quarter of a million digital bundles, together with Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night and Florence & The Machine’s Lungs. But The Fame is the only album to have passed the platinum mark digitally – platinum album status is achieved by selling more than 300,000 copies in the UK.

Since The Fame was released in January 2009, it has sold a total of 2.5m copies in the UK. It has also produced a million-selling single (Poker Face), three platinum singles (Poker Face, Bad Romance and Just Dance) and four number ones (Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance and Telephone), on the way to amounting a huge 4.8m single sales.

The Gaga fame monster seems to have upped the ante from the controversy she generated for walking last year's MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in a meat dress and arriving at this year’s Grammy Awards in an 'womb', by releasing the edgy second single 'Judas' from her forthcoming album Born This Way in the lead up to one of the most important holidays for Christians.

 Lady Gaga is "talentless and boring", according to a US religious group.

 Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights president Bill Donohue spoke out about the pop star and her new single Judas, a dance tune she released online over the weekend.

 Mr Donohue said "This is a stunt. People have real talent and then there's Lady Gaga.
