Tiki Releases 'Freedom To Sing' Song For Free

Tiki Taane has just released a new single called "Freedom To Sing (Live)' and it's available for free (for a limited time) from his website, the Tikidub online store.

The song was inspired by his arrest at his concert in Tauranga in April and gives his version of events. He was charged with disorderly behaviour for performing an 'anti police' song written by US rap group NWA. The officer who arrested him reportedly had concerns that he was attempting to incite a riot while singing the song.

"Freedom To Sing (Live)" is the first live recording to be released of the 60 minute free concert Tiki held last month when he returned to the same club to perform. Although it could be misinterperated as a protest song Tiki says it is a positive track and an artistic expression of his experience of the whole incident which he acknowledges has been "unfortunate".

And today Tiki made a brief appearance in the Tauranga District Court and said he will defend the charge after the case was adjourned until August. This is the first time the 34 year old Tiki Taane has ever been charged with an offence.

Interestingly the case has lifted the chart topping kiwis profile in Australia where he's been packing them into his sold out concerts.
