Another troubled songstress has passed away suddenly. Whitney Houston was found dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles yesterday.

She was due to perform at a gala show on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

At this stage investigations into the cause of her death are ongoing.

She was the 'It' girl for her generation scoring smash hits with  the single 'I Will Always Love You' and the movie the single came from, 'The Bodyguard'. She was also one of the most 'awarded' female singers ever and racked up Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards, selling over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide

Singing was definitely in her blood with her mother 'Cissy Houston', cousin Dionne Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin giving her plenty to aspire to as a youngster.

She was creating a stir with her looks long before she started singing and was one of the most in-demand teen models of all time. She was the first black American woman to appear on the cover of 'Seventeen' fashion magazine.

Whitney Houston's personal life was plagued by drug abuse and less than stellar comebacks. Her troubled relationship with rapper and self proclaimed 'bad boy', Bobby Brown resulted in allegations that the marriage was fuelled by erratic behaviour, drug and alcohol abuse. They eventually divorced.

Tributes to her have started to populate the internet with music megastars from yester-year and today expressing their shock and sadness at her passing.

Born on the 9th of August 1963 Whitney was mother to 18 year old Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.
