Kit Wilson from OceanGold called into the Gold FM studio for a catch up with Brian Gentil. The Project Martha Update on Gold FM is to update our listeners about local mining operations.
Brian asked Kit about the help OceanaGold has offered for a gathering at Gimour Reserve this Friday.
In the ‘old days’, miners would just walk away, even the Tui Mine on the slopes of mount Te Aroha was just abandoned in the 1970’s. Brian asked, “What’s to stop OceanaGold from just walking away?”
It’s time for another Correnso Community Meeting. Kit explained a bit more about these meetings.
The annual Miner’s Reunion is happening on Thursday, March 21. It’s an opportunity for the ‘old time miners’ to catch up with mates and enjoy each other’s company.
Brian had a question from a listener about a drill rig behind the former Wrightson’s building, across the road from the Waihi Resource Centre on Mueller Street. Kit said the rig is pointing away from Martha Mine because it is exploring the Rex area.
The Gold FM Drag Race at Waihi’s Warm Up Party for Beach Hop just wouldn’t be the same without a team of burly boys from the mining company showing off how to spin a hula hoop and pass a handbag in drag. We’re looking forward to welcoming them at the drag strip on Seddon Street next Wednesday.
