Joel and Kelsey are locals from Waihi who could do with a little help.
Kelsey works as an ECE teacher at a Waihi preschool and Joel works for an engineering company in town. Recently, they found out their 2 year old daughter, Isla, has a rare form of cancer. This was devastating news for this family and their friends.
It all began when Kelsey noticed a rather large lump in Isla’s groin area. Both Joel and Kelsey were quite concerned so off they went to their local doctor who referred them straight to Tauranga Hospital.
Several blood tests, x rays, scans and examinations were carried out. Long days and nights were spent in both Tauranga and Waikato Hospitals. Isla was then referred to Star Ship Hospital for further diagnosis.
Isla is currently undergoing chemotherapy which will continue for a minimum of 6 months.
It means Kelsey and Joel face some financial challenges while supporting Isla in hospital as she takes on treatment. Kelsey can no longer work as she helps care for Isla.
