Waihi Fire and Rescue’s new fire engine is getting a good workout after arriving just last Thursday.
There were six call outs starting last Thursday, 23 May, to SH 2 near Woodlands Rd just south of Waihi to a motor vehicle crash between two cars.
Friday May 24 they went to a medical call out to assist the ambulance. Saturday was busy with three jobs.
At 4 am they went back to near their Thursday call out to SH2 by Woodlands Rd just south of Waihi where a car had slid into a bank, then through a fence before catching fire. The lady driver got out before they arrived but the car was badly burnt.
At 12.30 pm they attended a rubbish fire in Princes St, it was a controlled fire in an incinerator or container so all was under control.
The siren went off again at 9 pm on Saturday night and they headed to Waihi Beach Rd where a vehicle had rolled. No-one was there when they arrived as the driver had obviously left the scene.
And on Sunday night at 10.30 pm they were called out for another medical assist and helped get the patient to hospital.
