Gold FM Fire Call Out

Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens updated us with the Waihi Fire Service and Rescue call outs over the last week.
There were just two jobs that they attended. The first was on Saturday, June 22, just before midday, when the siren went off at 11.55 am. The fire engines travelled to Dean Crescent where an engineering workshop alarm had gone off. It turned out to be a false alarm, with no apparent cause. They’ll be getting their alarm checked this week at a guess Moe said.
The second job was just before midnight on Sunday, 23 June, when the siren went off at 11.51 pm and the crews headed to Buller St in Waihi East. A house bus had caught alight and unfortunately it was not able to be saved. There was no-one in the bus at the time, but a small fire had been lit earlier in the day and it appears it may have not gone out as the owners thought.

The fire at Buller Street is a devastating blow for well known Waihi local ‘Stretch’ who called the house bus home. Two of his beloved pets were in the bus when the fire took hold. A GiveaLittle page has been set up to help Stretch.
