Brian Gentil caught up with Ross Cooper, Deputy Chair for the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, and ran through the results of all the Thames Valley games across the weekend.
The Senior A and B games had a couple of upsets as they head into the business end of the season.
Results: Thames Valley Club Rugby - 20 July
Coromandel 14 v 52 Cobras @ Coromandel
Mercury Bay 43 v 05 Waihi Athletic @ Lyon Park
Tairua 12 v 15 Thames @ Tairua
Whangamata 15 v 12 Hauraki North @ Whangamata
Paeroa 21 v 39 Waihou @ Centennial Park
Paeroa 29 v 27 Waihou @ Paeroa
Mercury Bay 10 v 27 Waihi Athletic @ Lyon Park
Ngatea 0 v 29 Thames @ Ngatea Domain
Hauraki North Bye
Ross also talked about the Maori All Blacks win against Fiji at Rotorua’s International Stadium on Saturday night, and The Championship games in Round 1. South Africa were too strong for Australia, winning 35 – 17.
Meanwhile the All Blacks scraped through with a win against Argentina in Buenos Aires 20 – 16. With several new players, and a number of All Blacks not playing, Ross thought they did well, especially in defense. It will be interesting to see the team named for this weekend’s game against South Africa in Wellington, with Ross suggesting the selectors are still looking at the mix for the World Cup in Japan coming up.
