Another scam is pouring into inboxes around the country at present. If you get an email from IRD notifying you about a refund don’t click on any link in the email.
Gold FM received one that looks very authentic. It even has the warning about tax related scams on the bottom of the email.
We did notice the noreply email address the fake refund notice was sent from included ‘is’ rather than ‘ir’ and it asked for credit card etails which IRD never does.
We forwarded the email to email@example.com and they contacted us today confirming it is a scam and they are working to have the website the email was sent from taken down.
If you receive a notification like this, although it’s tempting to claim a refund - the best thing to do if you have any questions is to call IRD (they have a call back service if they’re busy) and check. Don’t click on any links!
