A Metservice Severe Weather Watch is in place for the Coromandel Peninsula.
The heaviest rain falls are expected around the Coromandel Peninsula from 4.00 pm today, Monday 9 September until 11 am tomorrow, Tuesday 10 September.
MetService expects 80 to 110mm of rain to accumulate during this period, with peak intensities of 10 to 20mm/h.
TCDC Civil Defence Controller, Garry Towler says, “It’s going to be another wet and miserable night on the Coromandel, however if everyone is prepared it will be business as usual. Residents and visitors need to be aware and keep up-to date with the weather for the next 12 hours. Make sure you are organised, check road conditions before you travel and take care on our roads as this may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, therefore surface flooding and slips are possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.”
