Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, was back on deck after spending a couple of days in hospital unexpectedly last week. Welcome back!
Marcus ran through the Under 14’s and Under 16’s rep games and also congratulated the Thames Valley Development Team on the ‘news of the week’, after they won the competition with their last game against Waikato 85’s convincingly, 31 - 5.
Marcus and Brian Gentil then covered the Heartland Competition with Thames Valley at home against Wairarapa Bush, who they beat 29 – 23.
There were some great games and an upset or two in the Premiership and Championship games through the country, with Waikato losing to top team Tasman 35 – 26, and Southland finally getting a win at home, beating Counties Manukau 42 – 14.
Then it was on to the World Cup Rugby and the All Blacks win over South Africa on Saturday night. Spark’s coverage got a bit of a beating up, after pixelation, delays and more disturbances being the main features talked about after the match. A good win 23 – 13 saw the AB’s start the 6 week competition the way they’d like to continue, and as Marcus said, it’s one game at a time … funny, that’s what Steve Hansen said too!
