The Kuaotunu River Bridge will open later this afternoon, a week ahead of schedule. The bridge was closed on 22 September to repair damage caused by heavy rain.
Acting Waikato Systems Manager Rob Campbell says the bridge is due to reopen before dark tonight, with traffic management in place..
“Our contractors have done a fantastic job to get the bridge opened more than a week before Labour weekend, despite the heavy rain and strong winds that battered the area earlier this week.
“Weather dependent, the bridge will need to close again for the day on Monday to carry out resurfacing works.” Mr Campbell says the resurfacing work will be completed the same day.
Allan Tiplady, Thames Coromandel District Area Manager North says, “The road will re-open to one lane, under stop-go traffic management and is expected to open to two lanes by Monday, 21 October. We can’t give an exact time of when the bridge will open this afternoon, but it will be before the end of the day. We ask that when it does open, people to travel safely through the site and to observe the 30 km/hr speed limit, with possible minor delays until Monday.”
