Emergency Services ,
There were five call outs over the seven or so days since we last caught up, which Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens reported on this week. On Monday 14 October at 11 am the Waihi Fire & rescue Service attended a car crash on Whangamata Rd where a car had travelled up a bank and flipped. No-one was hurt in the crash but the car was not in a good state afterwards Moe said. Then at 11.45 pm they headed along the Whangamata Rd again to a tree down across the road, which they cleared.
On Tuesday 15 October another tree across a road needed clearing. This one was at 4.45 am on Waitekauri Rd. The firefighters coned the area off and a large digger was brought in later in the day to clear the road.
The alarm went off again at 7.15 am on Tuesday after a tree brought down power lines on Waitekauri Rd, near the Victoria Hall end of the road. The power company shut power down while it was cleared.
Then on Wednesday October 18 the Waihi Fire & Rescue Service answered the call to a serious two car head on collision just south of Waihi past the Waihi Beach turnoff and Waimata School. Some of those involved in the crash were trapped in the vehicles. Three people were in a critical condition with two helicopters landing on the closed off highway to transfer them to Waikato and Tauranga Hospitals.
